Twelve years ago, we met at a blind date set up by a friend. Rodrigo, almost ran away when he saw Anasta in long hippy jeans and a loose shirt, with his upper back hair exposed. Anasta wore a plant-based deodorant, making the encounter feel like stepping into an herbalist shop. Yet, as Rodrigo spoke passionately about his environmental science thesis and alternative medicine, Anasta fell head over heels. A few determined dates later, Rodrigo, too, was smitten, and soon after, we moved in together.

Our first holiday was unforgettable. Anasta being half Greek and Rodrigo half Spaniard, we traveled to southern Europe. Everything was perfect, the food, the sun, the sea, until Rodrigo asked to go hiking and we got lost unequipped on a foggy mountain with hungry wolves. After surviving a scary, foodless, and cold night we knew that our couple could survive anything.

This belief was tested when Rodrigo’s mother, Eloisa, fell seriously ill abroad. We brought her to live with us in Switzerland, facing uncertainties and strains of time, finances, and privacy. Thankfully, Eloisa recovered, and our relationship grew stronger.

Our adventures continued as we campaigned for equal marriage rights in Switzerland in 2021. Despite Anasta’s initial reluctance, the celebration when the law passed ended with Rodrigo catching a bridal bouquet from a drag queen, leaving Anasta with no more excuses!

As we exchanged vows in January 2023, one aspiration remained: starting a family. Today, we live by Lake Geneva with Eloisa, our lovable dog Evana and our four beehives. We feel the time is right to have children to whom we can pass on our values and our love for this beautiful planet.
